I plodded round scout halls doing pet obedience for years first with a male Rhodesian Ridgeback - super temperament but extremely strong and stubborn.  Then did much of the same with a totally opposite character "Tess" who was a show GSD with no will of her own but very loveable.  She was followed by another GSD, also show lines but big, strong and outgoing - the perfect temperament.  By this time as you can imagine I was bored to death as was the dog as we never moved on.  I felt there must be something more and then I found schutzhund and was hooked.
That was around 14 years ago and how I wished I'd found this marvellous sport when I was younger.  I had 3 year old show female of perfect temperament, bold and outgoing and I learned a little of the sport including bitework with her.  I realised that to go forward in the sport I would have to buy a puppy and start from scratch.  That is when I bought Manpol Heike. She always gave her best and although would never be a top schutzhund competitor she qualified B.H. and then passed schutzhund 1, 2 and 3 within twelve months. She also qualified for the nationals in 2001.  I then bought Latchets Brady, alias Zoe, and well - she has been a dog (or bitch rather) like no other.  Not a dog I could have handled as a novice and certainly never boring - powerful, edgy and certainly slightly loopy.  If I could I would clone her. At home (she lives in the house) she is a very good house dog, good with the grandchildren and very welcoming to visitors.
